Super Mario Galaxy Fans Say The Switch 2 Port Looks Worse Than The Original

Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 may be missing some textures and details from past versions, according to keen-eyed Nintendo fans on social media. Footage of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 was compared to the original Wii and Super Mario 3D All-Stars ports as evidence, although some have disputed the claims.

During the September 12 Nintendo Direct episode, Nintendo unveiled its plans for the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary event, which included the title reveal of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. In the same vein, Nintendo confirmed that two of the Wii’s best-selling platforming games, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, would be ported to the Switch and Switch 2. Although Super Mario Galaxy already saw a limited release via Super Mario 3D All-Stars, the upcoming re-launch includes Amiibo support, additional pages for Rosalina’s Storybook, and an Assist Mode that can help players complete some challenging levels.

Super Mario Galaxy Ports Look Washed Out Compared To Original Versions

Weeks before the launch of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, some fans stated that the ports were missing some polish. In a post on the Mario subreddit, a user named RedditRedditReddit64 compared the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy re-releases with two of its past iterations via some screenshots. The pictures were taken from the September 13 Nintendo Direct, along with the Wii version of Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the Super Mario 3D All-Stars port of Super Mario Galaxy. In Super Mario Galaxy 2‘s Boulder Bowl Galaxy, some details of a metal bridge that could be seen on the Wii version were missing from the upcoming Switch version, as the latter’s textures appeared flat.

Additionally, some of the ground textures in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars version of Super Mario Galaxy‘s Good Egg Galaxy level appeared more detailed compared to the Switch 2 version. However, the water and grass details of Super Mario Galaxy on the Switch 2 stood out a bit more than the previous port. While some fans questioned Nintendo’s attention to detail, others pointed out that the footage shown during the September 12 Nintendo Direct may not be indicative of the final product. Ergo, the comparisons must be taken with a grain of salt.

Between the inconsistent textures and the $70 price tag of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, the upcoming remakes have already stirred controversy among Mario fans. It remains to be seen how the final versions of the Super Mario Galaxy re-releases will turn out.
